Evercel acquires slipcovers producer Stretch & Cover
May '09
Evercel Corporation announced its purchase of the assets of Stretch & Cover, Inc. Stretch & Cover is a profitable five-year-old slipcover company that has developed a number of special slipcover features that solve the inherent fit and stay-in-place problems of ready made covers. Stretch & Cover markets exclusively through the internet, and experienced growth of 20% in 2008.

Stretch & Cover aims to educate consumers in how its better fitting slipcovers are an affordable alternative to buying new furniture. With so many slipcover companies out there, Stretch & Cover stands out because its slipcovers cover each individual cushion, and provide a better fit than ones that slide over the entire couch. The company aims to add textured suedes, cheniles and velvet prints to enhance its collection of furniture slipcovers.

Bert Shlensky, the new President of Stretch & Cover, offers the expertise to take the company to a new level. He was formerly President of Sure Fit Inc, a slipcover manufacturing company, and grew it from $50 million to $150 million, including a $60 million internet business. Since then he has consulted on startups of three different direct marketing companies for slipcovers, slipcovered furniture, and slipcovered headboards.

Garry Prime, CEO of Evercel, stated: "We are very pleased to welcome Bert to Evercel. We believe that this business has significant upside potential and that Bert has the expertise to add fashion, improve marketing and excitement to the category and to substantially increase sales."
Hingham, MA, based Evercel is a multi-industry company whose operations include crab processing for both fresh and frozen markets, sales of Y-valves used in the treatment of patients on respirators and investments in Zipcar Inc. (car sharing), Oxygen SpA (light electric vehicles), and Julia LLC (skin wrinkle reduction technology).

Stretch & Cover, Inc. is the producer of expandable slipcovers that come in a variety of styles and patterns. From redecorating a bedroom to breathing new life into a living room, Stretch & Cover offers decorating solutions to fit all styles.
