Uster Technologies Ltd, the leading high technology instrument manufacturer of products for quality measurement and certification for the textile industry, announced that it has acquired the product range of Zweigle to complement and strengthen its position as the world leader in yarn testing and certification.

Zweigle, a producer of specialized yarn testing systems based in Reutlingen, Germany, recently filed for insolvency. Uster Technologies has acquired the technology and know-how for the complete range of Zweigle products as well as the right to use the Zweigle brand name. No other assets and no liabilities are included in the transaction which was finalized for an undisclosed amount. Three selected experts from the Zweigle organization will be working with Uster to ensure smooth integration. In 2007, Zweigle reported sales of approximately CHF 3.0 million.

The acquisition of Zweigle's product range strengthens Uster Technologies' position as the worldwide leader and authority in yarn testing and certification. It also gives customers the advantage of a 'one-stop shop' for all their requirements in laboratory testing. In the future, USTER STATISTICS based on data from Zweigle instruments will be provided to customers giving them further opportunities to optimize their product quality, control costs and improve their profitability. In addition, the strength of Uster Technologies' distribution channels will give the opportunity to increase sales of Zweigle products.

Dr Geoffrey Scott, CEO of Uster Technologies, stated: “Zweigle is a long standing company in the area of yarn testing with a proud heritage stretching back over 90 years. They have a fine reputation as a quality supplier and their products fit perfectly with USTER. The integration of Zweigle's products complements our existing product range and allows USTER to now offer a complete range of testing instruments to specify the quality characteristics of yarns, with the addition of further important parameters such as yarn twist, friction and hairiness length measurement. ”

The Uster Group is the leading high technology instrument manufacturer of products for quality measurement and certification for the textile industry. The Group provides testing and monitoring instruments, systems and services that allow optimization of quality through each individual stage of textile production; from the raw textile fiber, such as cotton, wool or synthetic filament yarns, to the final finished fabric.
