NCTO elects officers during annual meeting

Wally Darneille, president and CEO of Plains Cotton Cooperative Association in Lubbock, TX, was elected chairman during NCTO's sixth annual meeting held last week at The L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC.

Darneille began his cotton career at Weil Brothers-Cotton, Inc. in Montgomery, AL, after graduating Dartmouth College in 1973. He received his MBA magna cu laude from Auburn University and managed cotton merchandising operations around the world.

He took over as president and CEO of Plains Cotton Cooperative Association in July 2004. Darneille, who was the first American elected to serve as president of the International Cotton Association in Liverpool, England, has served on numerous industry boards and has been very active in community and civic organizations. David Hastings, president and COO of Mount Vernon Mills headquartered in Mauldin, SC, was elected vice chairman of the organization.

Elected to the NCTO Board of Directors during the various Council meetings were the following: Fabric and Home Furnishings Council – Hank Byrd of Schneider Mills; Norman Chapman of Inman Mills; Jerry Cook of Hanesbrands Inc.; Jason Copland of Copland Industries; Allen Gant of Glen Raven, Inc.; and Bernie Hodges of Wade Manufacturing Co. Fiber Council – Donald Burich of INVISTA, Marty Moran of Radicispandex, Inc., and James Netzel of DAK Americas.

Yarn Council – Allen Barwick of Shuford Yarns, LLC; Bill Carstarphen of Pharr Yarns, LLC; James Chesnutt of National Spinning Company; Trey Hodges of Swift Spinning; Gilbert Patrick of Patrick Yarn Mills, Inc.; and Robin Perkins of Frontier Spinning Mills; Industry Support Council – Tony Almeida of Duke Energy, John Dunavant of Dunavant Enterprises, and Bill Sherrill of Oerlikon Textile Inc.

After being elected chairman, Daneille's first order of business was to announce appointments to the following offices of NCTO: president and CEO – Cass Johnson, NCTO; secretary – Mike Hubbard, NCTO; and treasurer – Werner Bieri, Buhler Quality Yarns Corporation.

He also announced chairmen for the following NCTO program committees: Cotton – Andy Warlick, Parkdale; Government Procurement – Steve Hundgen of Glen Raven Technical Fabrics; Regulatory & Standards – Jim Booterbaugh, National Spinning Company; and Trade & Economic Policy – Allen Gant, Glen Raven, Inc.
