The 118th Board meeting of the GHRSSIDC was held under the Chairmanship of Mr Sameer Salgaonkar. The following decisions were taken

GHRSSIDC TO INTRODUCE BAR CODING FOR GOAN HANDICRAFTS: The GHRSSIDC plans to introduce 'Bar Coding System' for various categories of handicraft products.The corporation will introduce item indexing for products manufactured by Goan artisans. Under the new system, the manual system of maintenance of register will be done away with at the sales outlets of the corporation -Aparant. Besides, it will help in quicker assessment of stock position and expedite placing orders for replenishment of stocks in the stores. On the other hand, the system will be useful to verify the product of the corporation and price in case a customer wants to return an item. The documentation of Goan handicrafts has already commenced and specific topics have been allotted to the experts to undertake extensive research, survey, photography of rare and existing Goan handicrafts. This will help the Corporation in identifying ad revival of rare and ancient Goan handicrafts. The documentation and research on Goan Handicrafts is expected to be fully completed in a time frame of 10-12 months.

EXCLUSIVE PORTAL FOR GOAN HANDICRAFTS -
It was also decided to extensively promote sale and marketing of Goan handicrafts, through the existing website of the corporation to cater to overseas clientele. The photo documentation of all the Goan handicrafts items will be taken up through a professional agency and all these details will be made available on the website, which will be linked to a secure payment gateway .Customers will be able to customise Handicraft items as per their requirement and it will also be possible to order bulk quantities of Goan handicrafts through this portal.

It has also been decided to undertake extensive branding campaign for Goan handicrafts by availing financial assistance from the Office of Development Commissioner handicrafts. Publicity campaign will include making of a documentary film on Goan artisans and handicrafts, printing of posters, publicity on hoardings in New Delhi and Goa, printing of brochure on Goan handicrafts, etc.The Central Government has already approved the first phase of this proposal and an amount of Rs 21 lakhs has been sanctioned.

APARANT MAAND -
The Board approved organisation of two Aparant Maands one each in Bicholim and Ponda. The dates for the same will be finalized shortly. It was also decided to organize all India level Gandhi Shilp Crafts Bazaar in Panaji in December, 2009. The Crafts Bazaar will be fully sponsored by the Govt. Of India. It was also decided to organize Sourcing Show of Indian Gifts and Handicrafts in the month of February, by obtaining financial assistance from the Office of D.C. (Handicrafts). The Sourcing Show will witness participation from Handicrafts dealers and artisans from all over India and abroad.
