The management of Siddheswari Cotton Mills in Howrah will submit a proposal to the Union Ministry of textiles to set up a textile park in its premises, announced Mr. Navneet Kumar Dujari, director of the Dujari Group.

This is one of the oldest mills in the city established in 1942 on 25 acres of land offered by the former Chief Minister Dr. B.C. Roy. It was taken over by the Dujari Group in 2005 after witnessing a shut down in the year 2000.

The mill currently has 200 workers and five small- and-medium-scale units.

The mill management plans to manufacture yarn and dyes at the textile park, which will generate 500 new jobs. It has also requested the government to help them regarding infrastructural development, said Mr. Dujari.

Mr. Sultan Ahmed, Union minister of state for tourism toured the mill and assured to take up the matter with the Centre after the submission of proposal.

The proposed textile park is one of the projects planned for development of the state as such projects are expected to revitalize the number of cotton mills in Bengal that have shutdown due to unfavorable conditions.
