Heeding to requests from the synthetic fibres sector, the union textiles minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran said that his ministry was working on a policy to bring parity between cotton and synthetic fibres.
The existing policies are heavily skewed in favour of cotton fibres, which have led to a mismatch between consumption in Indian and global markets. India's consumption of natural and man-made fibres is in the ratio of 60:40 as against the global trend of 35:65.
The proposed policy will help to correct the anomaly in consumption pattern between the two fibres and will be part of the national fibre policy which is expected to be announced by the year-end, said Maran.
