Competition was again very strong for Merino skirtings which had a pass-in rate of 3.3%. Crossbred average AWEX MPGs were up slightly at the fine end, but were relatively unchanged for medium and coarse types. Oddments had a very good week, apart from carding types in the South on Tuesday. The Merino Cardings average MPG finished up by 10¢ (+1.8%).

Buyers for China continued to dominate, followed by those buying for India and for Europe.

Sales will be held in Newcastle, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 47,841 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 15 and 16) are 47,300 and 44,400 bales, respectively; a decrease of 9.1% over the three sale period when compared with last year. The New Zealand Merino Company is rostered to offer 3,700 bales in Week 15.

In South African sales, where 8,390 bales were on offer, the Cape Wools Indicator was up by 1.8% since last week against a 0.9% depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar and a 1.4% depreciation against the Euro.
