The Federal Advisor on Textiles, Mr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig said that, Bangladesh in principle has agreed to issue GSP 'Form A' document to fabrics imported from Pakistan from January, 1, 2010.
This facility was already available for exports of fabrics to Sri Lanka from Pakistan and Bangladesh has now finally relented after a lot of persuasion and trade between the three countries allows for duty free status, since all the three countries are members of the ASEAN, he said.
He said this new development, will provide a boost to exports of fabrics from Pakistan, for re-exports of clothing to the European Union from Bangladesh, which has a GSP Plus facility, which entails duty free exports of products to the EU.
Under the GSP Plus entitlement, Bangladesh can import raw materials from any country, but the final product, as a condition before exporting it to the member countries of the EU, must have been manufactured in Bangladesh.
