The whole discussion centered on the growth of apparel retail in India, levels of application of technology in the sector challenges it is facing in current times. Mr Joshi spoke about expanding to 'C' and 'D' class towns and expected that apparel retail will grow by 15 percent in the coming years and added by saying that the biggest challenge was scaling up operations and that there were too many regional brands which were creating a clutter in the market. .

Mr J Suresh spoke about the three India's. The first one he said compromised 55 percent of the population and consumed 30 percent of available resources. The second, he said constituted 33 percent of the population and consumed 37 percent, while the top 12 percent of the population guzzled 33 percent of the resources. He pointed out that the middle 33 percent is the one, which specifically needs to be targeted.

He also stressed on the need to overhaul and organise the distribution network in India and that, irrespective of what everybody said, demand drivers had still not picked up. He also bemoaned the fact that analytical part of the business like understanding consumer preferences and mindset were missing.

Mr Dixit delved on the high store rentals and other factors, which were preventing scaling up of operations and also the low margins under which the sector was operating. He also said that the intrinsic nature of the business did not allow investments to flow across the whole value chain of the business. Speaking on Information Technology as a medium to improve operations, he said only IT could not solve all the challenges and improve inefficiencies facing the sector.

The valedictory address was given by Mr Venkata Subramanyan, Executive Director of Fibre2fashion, by thanking all the sponsors, co-sponsors, speakers and all the delegates for making this conference a big success. In the end, it was an enlightened audience which left the hall at the end of one and a half days of deliberations on issues challenging the textile and apparel sector as a whole and also found answers to a host of issues confronting the industry.
