The official Wholesale Price Index for 'All Commodities'(Base: 1993-94 = 100) for the week ended 3rd October 2009 declined by 0.5 percent to 241.9 (Provisional) from 243.0 (Provisional) for the previous week.

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 0.92 percent (Provisional)for the week ended 03/10/2009 (over 04/10/2008) as compared to 0.70 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 26/09/2009) and 11.49 percent during the corresponding week (ended 04/10/2008) of the previous year.

1. INFLATION
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 0.92 percent (prov) for the week ended 03/10/2009 over (04/10/2008) as compared to 0.70 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 26/09/2009) and 11.49 percent during the corresponding week (ended 04/10/2008
of the previous year. Build up inflation in the financial year so far was 5.82% compared to a build up of 5.73% in the corresponding period of the previous year. 52 week average inflation for the week ended 03/10/2009 was 2.66 %.

2. PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)
The index for this major group declined by 1.4 percent to 272.8 (Provisional) from 276.8 (Provisional) for the previous week.

3. MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS (Weight 63.75%)
The index for this major group declined by 0.2 percent to 208.1 (Provisional) from 208.5 (Provisional) for the previous week.The groups and items for which the index showed variations
during the week are as follows:-

The index for ' Textiles' group rose by 0.1 percent to 144.9 (Provisional) from 144.7 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of polyester staple fibre (2%).

4. FINAL INDEX FOR THE WEEK ENDED 8th August 2009
For the week ended 08/08/2009, the final wholesale price index for 'All Commodities' (Base:1993-94=100) stood at 240.2 as compared to 237.4 (Provisional) and annual rate of inflation based on final index, calculated on point to point basis, stood at -0.37 percent as compared to -1.53 percent (Provisional) reported earlier vide press note dated 20/08/2009.
