Orissa sets up agency for development of handloom clusters

The Government of Orissa the Government has set up a State agency for development of handloom cluster (SADHOC) for better implementation of various welfare programmes for weavers.

Economic development of self-employed persons through cluster approach is the main objective behind the approach. The agency will help over 375,000 workers for their economic betterment by providing them market linkages.

The Textiles and Handloom Department has identified 529 weaver's cooperative societies having more than 375,000 members in 29 clusters for integrated development and SADHOC will oversee that the welfare programmes reach the targeted beneficiaries.

The Centre is providing financial assistance for construction of common facility centre with all infrastructures for weaving and dyeing and it also has approved 23 clusters of weavers while proposal for another six is pending for approval.
