In order to verify the indiscriminate exports of cotton that affect small and medium mills in India, a staggered system of cotton export has to be developed by the Centre, said the Textiles Committee Chairman Mr. Karumuthu T Kannan.
With unrestricted access to credit, the multinational companies have been hoarding cotton and exporting it to the competitor countries like China and Bangladesh, who are the benefited in exports of RMG products.
Mr. Kannan was speaking while addressing an awareness workshop on 'Rating of ginning and pressing factories' in Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu. As the cotton from India and Pakistan are hand plucked, they command a very good market, he underlined.
Improving harvesting process and controlling contamination could help to save crores of rupees, he stated. Mr Britto Joseph, Chairman, Handloom Export Promotion Council said the centre focusing to promote modernization and foreign collaboration in the sector.
