Acerage of hybrid cotton seeds falls

In the current cotton season, planting of cotton hybrid seeds across China is estimated at about 80,000 mu (0ne hectare =15 Chinese Mu), a reduction of 38.4 percent, when compared with 130,000 mu in 2008.
The main reasons according to agriculture experts is that overall cotton planting acreage has reduced, but there has been a higher decrease in hybrid cotton seed acreage and also due to the low prices that cotton commanded in the beginning of the last season.
Hybrid cotton is expected to yield 95 kilograms per mu, while total production is expected to reach 7,600 tons, down 36.6 percent from the previous year.
