Grand Handloom Expo to be organized in Jan

A handloom exhibition, 'Grand Handloom Expo 2010' will be held between January 8 and 16 next year in Coimbatore, by Hi-Tech International Trade Fair India Limited. It would see the participation of about 250 entrepreneurs from various handloom societies and 50 retailers, across the country.

It has been organized with an objective of improving public awareness about handloom products and handloom mark. The exhibition would be organized in collaboration with the Textile Committee on a display area of about 60,000 sq. ft.

The exhibition will comprise a model handloom village demonstrating a loom and the process of producing a handloom product and will display traditional outfits of all the states, variety of saris and made-ups of cotton, silk, jute and kora.

Joining hands with the state governments, the organizers will also organize similar events in different centres such as Madurai, Chennai, Panipet.

Moreover, a contest for students; 'Fashion Fest' will also be organized as a part of this exhibition. PSG College of Technology would organize this contest, wherein around 300 students are expected to participate. This fashion contest would prove to be helpful for the weavers to get new designs.
