Two varieties of cotton genetically modified seeds (Bt cotton) indigenously developed by the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) have received the nod from the Ministry of Environment for commercial production of the same.
These two varieties of Bt cotton seeds may be made available for cultivation in the cotton season subject to a authorisation from the Punjab Seed Council.
Fibre2fashion spoke exclusively to Mr Rana Abdul Sattar, Chairman of the Pakistan Ginners Association who confirmed the news of approval of two varieties of Bt cotton seeds and said it will help raise overall cotton production in the country.
