A 15-day long, 5th National Handloom Expo has been organized by the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textile, Government of India at the Naga Shopping Arcade, Dimapur from November 27.

Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Mr. Maongwati Aier inaugurated the exhibition who cited handloom and handcraft industry as the backbone of North East India which gives employment to many numbers of people and generates considerable revenue for the village as well as urban people and the state government.

Handloom and handicraft products have become popular across the world as they are witnessing demand from many countries and in a bid to meet these mounting demands, there is a need to mechanize the products, he stated.

Innovation and refinement is necessary in the industry for further improvement, and other states should also be allowed to participate in this expo, opined Mr. Aier, who emphasized that Dimapur needs further development as it is the only cosmopolitan city of Nagaland that encompasses variety of culture, language and religion.
