Weaving cum Knitting Centre inaugurated

Major General C A Krishnan, IGAR (S) visited HQ 10 Sector AR at Somsai in Ukhrul district on 01 Jan 10. The General Officer was accorded a warm traditional Tangkhul welcome. Later he interacted with all officers and prominent civil dignitaries of Ukhrul town.

The IGAR (S) appreciated the efforts of HQ 10 Sector and all under command units in maintaining normalcy in Ukhrul district under the most trying conditions and in an inhospitable terrain. He also appreciated the bonhomie shared by the local population and troops.

He extended his gratitude to the civil administration for their cooperation with Assam Rifles and asked them to continue the same in future also, working towards a common goal of restoring peace and normalcy. Mrs Sandhya Krishnan, President, Assam Rifles Wives Welfare association(ARWWA),HQ IGAR(South) inaugurated Tailoring and Knitting facilities at Vocational Training Centre for Women at Ukhrul COB of 17 Assam Rifles on 02 Jan 2010.

Sewing machines, embroidery machines, Knitting machines, computer set and furniture were provided at VTC. The lady appreciated the efforts of HQ 10 Sector and 17 Assam Rifles for creation of this institute which is definitely going to provide the opportunities for self sustenance for today's women.

It will be utilized to provide skill based training to the families of Assam Rifles troops as well as women of Ukhrul town.
