The turnaround witnessed in the order position of many textile and apparel retailers beginning from November were signs that the recovery process in the global economy had begun, said a top textile ministry official.

According to the official, the sector was helped in no less measure by the domestic markets, which helped most of the textile and its allied sectors to face the impact of the downturn.

As part of promotional initiatives, the ministry is organising road shows and exhibitions in India and major overseas countries like US, UK, Japan and Germany in a bid to provide a boost to the handloom industry.

Along with which, the ministry is also taking initiatives in setting up handloom clusters in different states like Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Two such clusters have been sanctioned in Moradabad and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
