A cadmium testing laboratory will be established in the country soon by the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN), with the assistance of government, informed FHAN President Mr. Bikas Ratna Dhakwa at an event on 'Improvement in and effective utilization of Industrial Furnace'.

The association also demanded support from the government for a handicraft exhibition centre. Handicraft products of the country need improvement and development, he added.

While, the State Minister for Industry Mr. Dan Bahadur Chaaudhri emphasized on the need to enhance and develop the whole industry. To develop the handicraft industry further, there must be improved and effective utilization of the industrial furnace, he added while speaking on the occasion and informed that the government has started taking efforts to establish handicraft testing laboratory.

Handicraft industry is a major employment generator in the country which utilizes local resources and manpower, so, local artisans are encouraged by FHAN to take up handicraft production as a profession, which could lend a hand to preserve and promote cultural heritage of Nepal and make it popular across the globe.

Handicraft exports of Nepal to the US dropped down by 12.06 percent in last four months, of which textile product exports experienced a fall of 18.28 percent, while the non-textile products witnessed 1.34 percent plunge, as per FHAN.

According to four month's comparative data, overall export of Nepali handicraft products was Rs 1.047 billion in terms of value, in which textile products contributed 58.76 percent and remaining was shared by non-textile products.
