The Association deploys surplus revenues to developing artisans and their communities, improving products and design, expanding the artisans' networks and boosting marketing initiatives.

The Association is committed to the standards of the World Fair Trade Organisation ? trading partnerships based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seek greater equity in international trade and contribute to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalised producers and workers.

Founded as Sarba Shanti Ayog (SSA) in 1978, SASHA focuses on the development of craft producers and products. It is a signatory to the World Fair Trade Organisation's Charter.

In 1988, the SSA set up the SASHA Association for Craft Producers, which functions as a business organisation, with SSA concentrating on community development. SSA has also established the SASHA Textile Artisans Association, the Ruro-Agro Services Association, Sasha Craft Services, and a Tribal Development Centre in Phulbani District of Orissa. A member of the International Federation of Alternate Trade, a worldwide body of alternate trading organisations, SASHA is a founder-member of the Fair Trade Forum of India and the Asia Fair Trade Forum.
