JAC to work for development of all sectors of knitwear industry

A meeting was organized today 9th March 2010, at 10.30 a.m. in TEA Board Room under the Chairmanship of Shri.A.Sakthivel, President, TEA for formation of Joint Action Committee and other Sub-Committees like Monitoring Committee, Technical Committee, Legal Committee and Finance Committee respectively for taking care of the improvement and welfare of Tirupur knitwear industry apart from executing and overall monitoring of all activities related to discharge of treated dye effluent from CETPs.

The members of the committees were drawn from Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP), Individual Effluent Treatment Plant(IETP), Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA), The South India Hosiery Manufacturers' Association (SIHMA) Knit Cloth Manufactures' Association (KNITcMA), Tirupur Export Knit Printers Association, (TEKPA) & Tirupur Industrial Federation (TIF).

Apart from Managing Directors / Directors from 20 CETPS, Shri. Emperor Ponnusamy, Secretary, SIHMA, Shri. Ahill S. Rathnasamy, President, KNITcMA, Shri. T.R.Srikanth, President, TEKPA, Shri. Ahill M.S.Mani, President, TIF, and a few exporters also participated in the meeting.

Shri. A.Sakthivel welcomed the participants and categorically informed that it is a time for every one of them should work together and strive for protection and development of Tirupur business. He specifically mentioned that due to efforts taken by Tamil Nadu Government and Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Thiru.Dayanidhi Maran, Central Government has allocated Rs.200 crore to Tirupur CETPs and Tamil Nadu Government has also announced the Rs.120 crore as a grant to CETPs in Tirupur. He mentioned that the Joint Action Committee and other sub-committees will work for the development of all sectors of knitwear industry.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC)
The Joint Action Committee will be headed by Shri.A.Sakthivel, President, TEA and it is the main committee formed with an objective to take care the improvement and welfare of Tirupur knitwear industry totally and particularly Processing and Dyeing units. The committee will deal with all issues related to Processing, CETPs, IETPs and discharge of dye effluent and advise the other four sub-committees in all issues.

JAC will deal with both Central and State Governments and give suggestion and support for distribution of the Central and State Governments grants of Rs.200 crore and Rs.120 crore respectively. The committee will take steps and represent to Tamil Nadu Government for early allocation of Rs.120 crore. The Joint Action Committee will also strive for executing and overall monitoring of all activities related to discharge of treated dye effluent from CETPs.
