Right time for expansion in current economy – Owner of Spectrom

Spectrom Cleaning, a Winter Haven-based carpet, upholstery and tile cleaning firm, has announced expansion of its service area to three additional counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties.

The firm has served Polk County for nearly 30 years, according to Sam Brown, owner and operator of Spectrom Cleaning. Brown also announced expansion of the firm's product line to include leather upholstery cleaning. In addition, he announced that his son Matt has joined the firm.

Brown says the current economy a made this the right time for expansion. "People tell us they are having carpets and upholstery cleaned because they don't want to spend money to replace them in an uncertain economy," Brown says. "Or, they've decided to live a while longer with the bathroom tile, so they want us to shine it up."

Brown thinks the four-county service area makes business sense. "This is a metropolitan area now, not a group of neighboring counties. A good business ought to cover it all and so we will."

Brown plans to market in his expanded territory with a "we really mean it" special. For $99, Spectrum Cleaning will shampoo all of the carpets in a home. "We really mean it. This may be a come-on for other cleaning companies, but we think an honest $99 whole house special will build word of mouth among folks in our new service areas in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties."

Brown, a country music songwriter and performer who had two "hits" in Europe, says he thought about offering serenades as part of the marketing campaign. "I sing anyway while I work, and customers seem to like it. We'll call that 'added value'. No charge!"
