The National Director of Handcrafts at Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Ms. Madeleine Burns informed that a foreign tourist during his visit to Peru spends around US $98 on Peruvian handicraft items.
Since past few years, handicraft items of the country have been witnessing a noticeable improvement in respect of quality which has increased the per-capita spending of tourists to around $98. It was about $80 in the year 2005, added Ms. Burns.
Jewelry and alpaca products are the most preferred products of tourists. These products have 60 percent share in country's overall sales of crafts, pointed Ms. Burns.
In the year 2009, tourism sector of Peru witnessed a 4 percent growth, the second largest growth by nay sector in the country, during the year impacted by the global financial slowdown.
