In his speech at the Foreign Trade Complex, Istanbul, Ismail Gulle, President, Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters' Association or ITHIB proclaimed the year 2010 to be a beneficial year for the textile industry, especially the exporters.
Continuing Gulle informs, “The country currently exports its products to 124 countries, while it targets to diversify its trade to 184 countries in the current year.” More so, Gulle also sees its textile sector emerging as one of Turkey's leading sectors during this fiscal. Exports of textile products have already witnessed a growth in the first quarter of the ongoing year.
Its contribution to country's overall exports went up to 6.8 per cent from 6.2 per cent, during this period. According to Gulle, new market search proved helpful for the textile exporters who later diversified their business into the South American markets. This year, while their primary task at hand is to deal with hurdles in exporting, it will also tap new markets such as Russia.
Although ITHIB's intentions, during its elections that are scheduled for April 1, is to develop Istanbul as a research and development centre within the framework of union's new objectives, it's key aim is to safeguard country's textile industry from unjust competition.
