NITRA hosts 51st Joint Technological Conference

While continuing, Dr. Rao opined that in order to keep Indian textile industry competitive in the international market in the area of technical textiles, recently MOT has taken several initiatives. Notable amongst them is establishing four CoEs on Protech (NITRA), Meditech (SITRA) and Geotech (ATIRA & BTRA), involving leading research associations and premium academic institutes. He also informed that SASMIRA and MANTRA are also working on Agrotech. The activities of these centers, continued Dr. Rao, are product development, preparation of standards/specifications, testing & evaluation, national and international accreditation, organizing training programs, creating awareness through workshops & seminars and acting as Resource Center for information dissemination. To conclude, he informed that in order to work in tandem with the Government policies, the process of infrastructure development in all four TRAs is in full swing, so as to make these centers fully operational by middle of this year.

Sh. K. K. Aggarwal, Chairman, NITRA Research Advisory Committee, while delivering the formal vote of thanks,mentioned that the TRAs have pioneered the act of research and development for the Indian textiles industry for over fifty years now. They play a lead role in developing the Indian textile industry by conducting need-based research and other supporting activities that help the industry grow and meet the cost and quality standard of a globalized market. Apart from research, result oriented technical consultancy and effective manpower training activities by these TRAs also contribute to the growth of Indian textile & apparel industry to take on the future challenges well prepared.

The 2010 edition of SITRA Norms for Spinning Mills, a very useful and popular TRA publication, was released during the occasion. An exhibition was also organized to commemorate the 51st JTC. A number of reputed companies, viz-a-viz the four TRAs,participated in the exhibition for product showcasing and technology orientation.

The staff members of NITRA, under the guidance of Dr. M. S. Parmar, Asstt. Director and Coordinator-51st JTC, put up tireless effort to make this event a grand success.
