In a recent meeting held between the power-loom workers and industrialists, which was organized by the Bangladesh Handloom and Power-loom Owners Association, it was revealed that, the ban on imports of cotton yarn through Benapole land port had lead to the increase in prices of yarn, which had thereby, forced around 20,000 power-looms to face closure.
According to the speakers, government's decision of imposing a ban on imports via Benapole was immoral as it was destroying the power-loom industry of the country.
These workers and industrialists have requested the government to withdraw the ban on imports of cotton yarn through Benapole land port and also put the yarn market under its control, as it will also help safeguard the country's power-loom industry.
