Kerala to revive defunct textile sector

With an investment of Rs 1.25 billion, the Kerala Cabinet has decided to establish eight new public sector units (PSUs) in the state, by the end of this year and this will include different kinds of sectors such as textile, cables and soaps.

More so, the cabinet has also announced that, both the Malabar Spinning and Weaving Mills and Trivandrum Spinning Mills will be expanded and developed with state-of-the-art technologies at the cost of Rs 1 billion.

In addition, a hi-tech weaving factory, worth Rs 200 million at Kannur and a textile mill, worth Rs 160 million at Kasargod, will also be established.

The government has also taken up the task to improvise and reopen, sealed Komalapuram Mills, at a cost of Rs 360 million.
