An expert from the Chinese cotton sector is of the opinion that, the situation of cotton production this year is not as good as expected, although cotton price has substantially increased, compared with the time before the crisis unfolded.

Cotton acreage has increased only marginally amid steadiness, meanwhile, spring sowing has been delayed by 15 days due to cold weather from south to north in the country, due to which cotton cultivation has had a poor start.

Mr. Zhou Shengtao, President of China Cotton Association said that, there has been a noticeable recovery in textile output along with which export situation has also improved. However, global cotton situation is precarious.

He expressed the opinion that, global cotton market will also face increased gap between production and demand, as well as a decreased inventory in the new cotton year, which however is good for cotton cultivators, as prices will rise.
