Acting on incessant pressure from textile-value added sector, the Bangladesh government has lifted the ban on imports of yarn, through the Benapole land port, which connects with India.

Handloom and powerloom weavers across the country had embarked on a nation-wide strike in protest against the rising prices of yarn and demanded from the government to allow imports of yarn through the Benapole land port.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a notification withdrawing ban on import of four counts of yarn; 82/1, 100/1, 100/2 and 120/1 through Benapole land port.
