Handicrafts exports tumble by 10.42%

The comparative export statistics for handicraft products, for the just concluded 10 months period, has registered a decline of 10.42 percent, over the corresponding period in the previous year.

During the 10 months duration, where the overall exports of textile products has gone down by 17.82 percent, there has been a nominal rise of 0.10 percent in exports of non-textile items.

Felt products, miscellaneous textile products, silver jewellery, handmade paper products, glass products, bone and horn products, ceramics products, incense and stone crafts were the only products which managed to have witnessed positive rise in exports.

All in all Rs 1.165 billion worth of textile products and Rs 1.016 billion worth of non-textile products were exported during the initial 10 months.

According to Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN), overall handicraft exports for the period under consideration came to Rs 2.181 billion, and if the political stability is prolonged, with effective implementation of the industrial policy, then there are bright chances that handicraft sector could excel once again.
