Aiming to satisfy the need for courses that perfectly go with the textile industry, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is soon to introduce specialised degree courses, as also short-term courses, commensurate with the industry.

IGNOU, a couple of days back, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Textile Management, Coimbatore, for designing the courses. It is to offer courses at bachelors, masters, as also M. Phil and Ph.D. levels.

For these courses the University will have programmes like B.Tech, MBA, M.Phil and Ph.D. in Textile Management and it will also offer short-term courses with three and six months duration.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor, VN Rajasekharan Pillai, stated that, signing of this MoU will provide enhanced opportunities to the students desirous of having a career in the field of textiles. The courses are to commence from the academic session that follows next.

SR Pujar, Director of the Institute of Textile Management, said that, as IGNOU has several resource centres throughout India, this would help to earn recognition for the courses all over the country, as also would lead to augmented exports in the long run.
