In May, imports of textile raw materials continued to grow, but growth rate slowed down sharply compared with April. In May, import volume and value of raw materials rose 18.7 percent and 59.1 percent, respectively, of which, import volume and value of cotton, silk, wool tops surpassed their average rates.
From January to May, total imports of raw materials rose 76.5 percent in volume and 114.4 percent in value, again of which silk and cotton achieved the fastest-growing rates, import volume increased by 10 times and 1.4 times, respectively.
Import prices of raw materials continued upward trend in May. Average unit price of raw material imports rose 34 percent, of which, cotton and chemical fiber increased by 45.1 percent and 12.8 percent, respectively, wool tops increased by 55.6 percent, while unit price of silk imports fell 1.9 percent.
From January to May, average unit price of raw material imports increased 21.4 percent, of which, cotton and chemical fiber rose by 36 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
