Exports from the textile and clothing sector touched US $18.67 billion in June 2010, to record a growth of 33.4 percent, over the same month of last year and in the process achieved figures attained before the economic crisis unfolded in 2008.

Of this, textile exports climbed by 44 percent to $7.09 billion, and those of apparel grew by 27.7 percent to $11.57 billion. A significant portion of this came in a surge in exports to countries of the ASEAN bloc, mainly due to the FTA, which came in to effect in January.

The first six months of 2010, i.e. between January and June, shipments of textiles and garments grew by 22.1 percent year-on-year to $88.88 billion, of which textiles accounted for $35.65 billion, up by 32.2 percent and clothing $53.23 billion, up 16 percent.
