The cost of producing cotton in Azerbaijan is more than double the costs incurred by other cotton producing countries like the United States, China and India.
The main reason being the excessive costs associated with the cotton crop in Azerbaijan and also mainly due to lack of increase in yields per hectare.
The yield per hectare is only 1.5 tons per hectare versus the 3.0 tons per hectare that is possible by application of new technology.
The other big misnomer is the input costs. While it costs only US $100-150 per hectare in the US and other countries, it costs an astronomical $300 per hectare in Azerbaijan.
