As per Shashi Singh, Joint Textile Commissioner, the Indian technical textile industry, which caters to technical performance and functional properties in various sectors, will probably increase at a rate of 12 percent year-on-year.
While the market-size of technical textile industry is around Rs 410 billion, it has increased by nearly 18.65 percent within the last 5-6 years. And hence, it is anticipated that the number might increase at the aforesaid rate of percentage, year-on-year. The Indian technical industry is likely to increase and attain a level of Rs 642.07 billion by 2012-13 year.
In the year 2000, technical textile summed for around 25 percent of the overall consumption of textiles by weight. Protective technical textile (protech) sector sums for 1.4 percent of the technical textiles with an approximate value of $5.2 billion.
Protech is expected to be about Rs 13.87 billion. The local usage of technical textiles under this sector is likely to rise from Rs 13.87 billion in 2007-08 to Rs 23.86 billion by 2012-13, informed Singh.
