With imports of Nepali handicraft products worth Rs 739.48 million during last fiscal, US has become the biggest importer of Nepali handicrafts of 2009-10 fiscal, according to data revealed by the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN).

Overall handicraft exports from Nepal include textile products worth Rs 333.122 million and non-textile products worth Rs 406.366 million. Over 85 countries around the globe import Nepali Handicrafts, of which US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan, China, Denmark and Switzerland were the top 10 countries importing Nepali Handicrafts in the last fiscal.

The total handicraft exports of the country was valued at Rs 2.78 billion in fiscal 2009-10, showing a down fall of 8.11 percent, over exports of Rs 3.029 billion in 2008-09, as per FHAN data. Experts find export figures of 2009-10 satisfactory, despite decrease against the previous fiscal.

These exports have witnessed a huge fall in the first half of the fiscal 2009-10, but showed recovery in the second half.

The association chalks out plans to conduct promotional programs in foreign countries. From September 1, it will organize several business promotion programs as well as trade fairs at various places, including, Germany, France, Belgium, Bhutan and Sikkim.
