Textile associations of 140 textile markets based in Surat have decided to challenge the Service Tax Department notices in Gujarat High Court, under which the former has to pay service tax on maintenance charges that are collected from textile traders.
As per members of the aforesaid associations, maintenance charges are collected from all textile traders for payments made for security guards, sweepers, lift man, and the like. The market associations are not making any profits from these maintenance charges, which are collected.
