BTC Chief, Hagrama Mohilary recently inaugurated an air-conditioned emporium of Bodoland Handloom and Handicraft “Aronai” and Raw Material Bank and Cane Craft Centre. The emporium set up at JD Road in Kokrajhar's Kodamtola belongs to the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers and Artisans Co-operative Federation's (BRAWFED).
Mohilary also released a catalogue, brochure and folder on Bodoland handicrafts, and also gave out tool boxes to 100 artisans from Bodoland.
Mohilary, in his inaugural speech in the capacity of Chief Guest said that, the Department of Handloom & Textile, within a short period of time has significantly endeavoured to promote Bodoland's handloom and handicrafts, and expressed optimism that the artisans in the region would certainly benefit with setting up of the Centre.
Simultaneously, he even maintained that there are plentiful of opportunities in the industry in Bodoland as, the raw material here is available in abundance and thus, those associated with the sector could reap big gains.
NN Rana Patgiri, Managing Director of BRAWFED, while elucidating on the objectives of the programme stated that, the Centre has been established in association with the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India to add new avenues to production and promotion of Bodoland's attractive hand-made textiles and handicrafts.
Meanwhile, he also divulged that , for promotion of local products like hand-made clothes, garments, decorative cane and bamboo items, in other parts of the country, BRAWFED has undertaken to launch similar emporiums or showrooms in Delhi, Guwahati and Mushulpur.
