Taiwanese textile entrepreneurs could get an opportunity to reinforce ties with Chinese industrialists by selling technical and functional textile, on account of a trade agreement with China, which is likely to be in effect from the beginning of the coming year.

As per the President of Taiwan Textile Research Institute, Bai Chi-Chung, textile industry of the country is on the verge of transformation and it is approaching towards functional and technical textiles as well as value added textiles.

The country enjoys an early advantage over China regarding functional and technical textiles, which offers added value to the manufacturers, informed Bai. More over, technical textiles are widely used in a number of sectors, such as medical industry.

Technical textiles are used in artificial blood vessels, oral masks, suits for lab staffers at clean rooms, seat belts used in cars, etc. While, the materials, which carry value added features, for instance, cold or heat protection, blocking infrared radiations, water resistant are the functional textiles, added Bai.

There is huge availability of low-cost raw materials in China with a wide domestic demand, which could offer profits to Taiwanese businessmen, he said.

Such a trade agreement will prove helpful for the textile industries of both the countries, to improve quality control, promotion and marketing, research and development, and even make forays into global markets with own-brand offerings.
