Onam Handloom Expo 2010 to continue till August 22

Bearing in mind the approaching Onam festival, Union Textile Ministry together with the Kerala State Handloom Department has organized the 'Onam Handloom Expo 2010' at Kozhikode, a three week long exhibition, which will continue till August 22.

B Sivaprasad, General Manager of the Kozhikode district Industry Centre averred that, apart from 30 Primary Handloom Cooperative Groups, Cooperative groups representing other districts too will be partaking in the fair.

Kannur Institute of Handloom Textile Technology will be giving an exclusive presentation at the expo, added Sivaprasad.

He also mentioned that, while a wide range of dhotis, sarees, shirting, lungi and floor mats will be exhibited, a 20 percent rebate is being offered on these handloom items on display.

During last year's exhibition, around Rs 6.5 million worth of sales was registered, and therefore the sales target for this year has been fixed at Rs 10 million, informed Sivaprasad.

Kozhikode district Industry Centre and Kozhikode District Handloom Development Samithi, too are partaking in the fair.
