Government is aware of the problems being faced by the weaving societies due to steep increase in the prices of Zari and the resultant increase in the input cost of silk sarees.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi in a written reply in the Lok Sabha to a question raised by Shri S.S. Ramasubbu.

The Minister further stated that the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Government of India is implementing Mill Gate Price Scheme (MGPS) under which all types of yarn including Zari is made available at Mill Gate Price to the eligible handloom weavers throughout the country so as to facilitate regular supply of basic raw materials to the handloom sector and help utilize the full employment potential of the sector.
