Several provinces in southern China have experienced floods in the last three months; market report forecasts that China's cotton production will be down by 5-10 percent.
In the same manner, around 30 percent of the cotton fields in Pakistan have been destroyed by floods, which will make Pakistan a net importer of cotton this year.
This has got the textile sector across the world, deeply worried, as these developments will further flare up the ever increasing prices of cotton in the future.
