As the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is to revise its Generalised System of Preference (GSP) this year, the Garment Association Nepal (GAN) has lodged a petition before USTR, appealing it to add another 11 exportable Nepali items including Nepali Pashmina in GSP.

The US revises its GSP list every 10 years, and this being its revision year, the list is up for revision in December. Taking advantage of the same, GAN has lodged a petition for inclusion of an additional 11 exportable products of Nepal to US.

Likewise, GAN has even lodged a petition before EU, appealing it to grant a further extension of two years to the Derogation facility that it provides to Nepal, which has been availing this EU Derogation facility since 2004. GAN independently lodged this Derogation petition with assistance of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS).

Amongst different Pashmina and textile merchandise that are included in the petition are Pashmina, men's and women's shirt, trousers, skirts, dresses, jersey, pullover, waistcoat, scarf and Pashmina dresses.

GAN further stated that, they together with the Nepali Embassy in the US are prepared to strongly press their case for inclusion of new items in the GSP, during September and October, since it is the time when US will take up the petition for public hearing.
