China's national cotton planting area is estimated at 76.94 million Mu in 2010-11 (one hectare equals 15 Chinese Mu), slightly lower than projections made in June and down 1.1 percent from a year earlier.
Overall level of pests and diseases in the country are lower than normal, cotton-growing conditions are normal and yield in the Yangtze River Basin will decline due to climatic influences.
China's total cotton production is expected to reach 6.96 million tons, down 100,000 tons from the forecast made in June 2010.
