Recently, an Indian silk delegation led by Joint Secretary of Indian Ministry of Textiles visited China and held talks with China Silk Association. The delegation, made it clear that India would uniformly import some raw silk from China.
This is being done to reduce the difficulties faced by small traditional weavers in handloom and power loom sector, as well as to stabilize market price of raw silk, so as to support production and operation of small traditional weavers.
Currently the free-duty import plan has been approved by state tax department, but import quantity, import time, import mode, importing country and other details have not yet been considered.
The two sides discussed procurement pricing system of Chinese cocoon and raw silk, how to promote bilateral economic exchanges and cooperation of trade and technology between the two silk industries, at the same time they also talked about how to make exchanges on Indian duty-free import policy of raw silk, talks between the two sides achieved good results.
China said, cocoon and raw silk trade between China and India is huge, it is necessary to establish regular basis and regular platform for exchange of information; the two sides could make in-depth and substantive cooperation in production, technology, economy and trade, they could make exchanges and mutual learning through sending delegations.
