JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp, Japan's top refiner and a unit of JX Holdings Inc. operates a 45,000 barrels per day, Naphtha mild hydrocracker unit.
The hydrocracker unit, which is located in the Muroran refinery in northern Japan, was shut down after a boiler fire on August 24.
Another 39,000 barrels per day Naphtha hydro desulphuriser plant owned by the same company located in Chita, Central Japan too had to be shutdown, again due to a boiler fire on August 29.
The company had switched to an alternative boiler and restarted operation again on September 3 on a temporary basis and currently it is operating at 50-60 percent production rate.
