There is a chance of enhancement in the exports of coir products to South Africa. The Coir Board of India has received many queries from South Africa after the event that just ended in Johannesburg.
The show commenced from 30th August and was held for three days. Coir Geo-textiles and Coir Pith are the major products, whose exports are going to rise significantly in future.
According to trade sources, South Africa is currently importing huge quantities of jute geo textiles from Bangladesh to check the problem of soil erosion. There is a higher possibility of coir geo textiles being exported from India from now onwards, in place of jute because of its long-lasting capability.
Out of the 294,508 tons of coir products costing Rs. 80.4 million, which was exported in 2009-10, South Africa purchases around 1055.53 tons worth Rs 42.656 million from India.
