Recently a foundation stone for the Asian Traditional Textiles Museum has been laid in Siem Reap. Indian President, Ms. Pratibha Patil, who was on a six-day visit to the Kingdom, and Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Mr. Kong Sam Ol, presided over this ceremony.
The museum will be funded by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to the tune of around US $1.5 million.
The Museum, which is likely to get completed by December of the next year, will display traditional fabric and cloths' collection from Mekong-Ganga Cooperation countries which include Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Philippines.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Apsara Authority and the ICCR in 2004 for the construction of the Museum on an area of around one hectare.
