Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) have appealed the Prime Minister to send across a high-level team to Europe to persuade the EU member countries for inclusion of home textiles and knitted garments in the list of Pakistani export items, in the list of goods, which may be considered for providing duty free access to the EU.

PTEA Chairman Khurram Mukhtar and Vice Chairman Sohail Pasha divulged that, major European countries are in accord of granting duty free access to exports from Pakistan, to ease the difficult situation prevailing in Pakistan.

Moreover, when a few European countries are reluctant in granting duty free access to Pakistan's export items, it is highly essential for Pakistan's Commerce and Textile Minister's and Secretaries of these Ministries to pay a visit to these EU countries.

As according to the experts, when the opportunity is approaching, it is now for the government to cash on it, by putting in all its efforts. Also, by establishing direct contact, the government can mould situation in its favour to reap higher export potential.

Home textile and knitted garments makes up for the largest share in country's overall exports and contributes over 40 percent of the total textile exports.
