Khadi and the charkha empowered the 'humblest and simplest' of Indians for a non-violent freedom struggle, stated Ms. Meira Kumar, Lok Sabha Speaker, during the inaugural ceremony of an exhibition on textiles titled, 'Power Cloths of the Commonwealth' at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
So it is incumbent upon all the Indians to empower the manufacturers of Khadi by meeting their hopes, aspirations and demands, she said further.
'Power Cloths of the Commonwealth' is a plateau of textiles from 15 Commonwealth countries on five continents and it has been organized by the Union Textiles Ministry, Australian government and RMIT Gallery, Melbourne, to celebrate the XIX Commonwealth Games commencing from Oct 3 in the capital.
